Covid19 Appeal, Sabah Frontliners Needs Help.

Short Story

The third wave of Covid19 recently hit Malaysia again and this time, making Sabah state one of the top in the chart. The infection speed is beyond expectation and currently the Hospitals (especially in rural parts of Sabah) is facing extreme shortages due to high usages. We received SOS from our contacts in Sabah as they needed help to raise funds to procure as much PPE supplies possible to be sent over to the hospitals in Sabah.

About Covid19

Coronavirus disease or Covid19 is an infectious disease caused by a new virus. The disease causes respiratory illness (like flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty in breathing. Covid19 disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

Why help our Frontliners?

Our Hospital frontliners (Doctors & Nurses) regardless of which hospitals they represent, works around the clock and on-call basis. They are indirectly exposed to Covid19 patients on a daily basis too. Number of infected persons will inevitably increases on day to day.

In order to tend and treat patients that are affected with Covid19, they are vulnerable to getting infected if they do not wear the required protective gears. These frontliners risks their lives to fulfil their duties to treat and to serve. And it is the right thing to do to help them get the help they need.

Although our Director General Of Health, Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah and his team has done a great job in deploying more manpower assistance in parts of Sabah, we hope to support his great work in other areas in Sabah that needs Malaysians to come together.  He cannot do this alone without all of us.

What help do they need?

Below are just some of the screenshot of conversations with volunteers (identity withheld with permission).

See below on what is needed now.

BELURAN HOSPITAL

Beluran hospital needs isolation ward to accommodate incoming patients and visitors.

The hospital needs help to build additional isolation room (extra). As existing isolation area is too small to accommodate the sudden incoming of patients. They are looking to procure Plywood, black net, roof (see above visual for rough idea).

Currently a volunteer in Beluran is working closely with the Hospital to organize the set up. Due to Covid19, they are limiting volunteers that is coming to the hospital to work on the plan.

List of items to get.

Other items they need to the new isolation ward (see visual):

  • Tables
  • Plastic shoes (crocs type) usually used by the frontliners
  • Surgical Mask
  • Dettols/Sanitizers.
  • Stand fans
  • Containers to keep PPELink to the recent news update on their initiative HERE.

ALL OTHER HOSPITALS IN SABAH

Through a close contact in KK, this is what other hospitals in the state need that is currently running out:

  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Face Shields
  • Surgical Mask
  • Isolation Gowns

Since the above are disposables, they need these supplies in HUGE quantities.

With the raised funds, we hope to be able to supply to the Hospitals in Sabah, by sending the supplies to the main hospital in Sabah first as they are the receiving hub for supplies before coordinating and distributing these supplies to other hospitals within the states accordingly.

IMPORTANT INFO

Announcement from QEH.

Please NOTE that NONE of the Hospitals is running this campaign and no monies is collected by them. Our campaign is driven to help procure and send the supplies over to them. We have ran similar campaign for the hospital since March 2020.

We understand that due to lockdown in certain locations in Sabah, help may not be able to reach on time. We appeal to any volunteers in Sabah that can help with the logistics and purchases.

How you can help?

Your donations is important so we can help the hospitals to get the supplies they need. We also welcome to work with suppliers directly if they are able to provide the supplies at no charge and to deliver directly to the respective Hospitals.

The funds raised is not only to purchase the above mentioned items at bulk rate but also to cover the logistics fees to deliver the item.

Our Hope

From as little as RM20, every donations counts. We would be grateful if you can help us to spread this campaign around too. In view of the fact that Covid19 will not go away so soon, we have decided to continue this initiative until December 2020.

You may contact us at hello@hanafundme.com if you need more info about this campaign.

    Toiletries for Frontliners.

We have tapped our Volunteer help to purchase hygiene products for our frontliners to be delivered via QEH Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. Currently the frontliners cleaned themselves with chemical like clorhexidine before washing off with normal cleansers. They need to do this everytime they completed their shifts.

    PPE Shipment to Sabah

Together with our collaborative partner, IIUM, we will be purchasing and collecting more than 30 cartons of PPEs to be sent to QEH Hospital Sabah via TUDM. This is the second time we sent PPEs over via the same approach since June 2020.
